All things being equal, Pilot skill, equipment parody, etc, it boils down to one thing. Position. If Hornets jump Raptors it's kill Raptors. If Raptors jump Hornets it's kill Hornets. The Raptor is very good at hiding - but once found it splashes like any other aircraft. And the old Hornet is a somewhat stealty beast itself let's not forget, not as "bells and wistles" as a Raptor of course - but an old dog with a few good tricks still in her. The "Jumper" will usually win, if both get bounced at the same time then a slight edge to the Raptor. But a long time Hornet driver will cream a new Raptor driver every time - that's the truth of it.

raptor has better range for targeting so I would say having the first shot is a huge oportunity but once the fight closes anything could happen

An F-22 Raptor hands down The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet would be shot down by the Raptor because the F-22 is one of the greatest Stealth/Air superiority in the world and that is not a bias opinon. The F-22's stealth system would allow it to get in range of the F/A-18 Before it was visable on radar and would be able to fire on it with either (correct me if I'm wrong) Aim 8's 9 and X's In conclusion the F/A-18 is a 4th Generation Multirole Fighter, The F22-Raptor is the one of the pinacle 5th generation Stealth/Air superiority at the moment.
