This compound has the general name of Cobalt-Oxide. However, because Cobalt can have a valence of either two or three, three different compounds have the general name of Cobalt-Oxide but may be more specifically referred to as follows: CoO - Cobaltous-Oxide Co2O2 - Cobaltic-Oxide Co3O4 - Cobalt(II,III)-Oxide The last one is read as; "Cobalt two-three Oxide".
