I have made my own beer many times. There is a liquor store near my house that sells all the supplies, i.e. malt syrup, hops, yeast and raw sugar. I have made beer that was quite tasty and also some that tasted awful but would give you a nice buzz.

Yes - and wine and brandy

Yep! lots of times. For some reason it never tastes as good as the professional stuff. BUT! Mine is always stronger. And real cheap to make.

Yep, it's cheap and easy.

I have been a home brewer on and off for twenty-five years. It's a terrific hobby the produces an excellent product. If you observe good sanitation and use a little creativity the difference between home brew and most commercially produced brew is like the difference between a good loaf of home made bread and wonder bread. For the beginner and well any brewer I would recommend The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Third Edition (Harperresource Book) (9780060531058): Charles Papazian Relax and have a homebrew!

My dad used to when I was little and for some reason I remember it rather vividly, the texture of the yeast cube, the smell of the hops, the feeling of stirring it myself in the big white plastic bucket. I also heard it's cheaper and has more taste. All you're really paying the big boys for is consistency. Concerning moonshine laws I THINK it's not illegal to make your own, just to sell it without paying taxes.

Yes, many years ago we brewed our own.
