I live in Northern Alabama. When my husband was younger, he said people here did that with deer a lot. I'm not from here, so I have yet to see that. I have zero idea why anyone thinks that's an acceptable thing to do. Even if someone finds it necessary in their life to kill an animal they need or don't need, why parade it around for everyone to see?

Deer around here(northern Illinois)

That never happened back in California since we lived in an area that stayed kind of warm during big game hunting season and no one wanted to have their game out in the sun. I've never seen it here in upstate NY, though I've been told that some do it in New Hampshire so that the game warden/wildlife managers can see or get some kind of count of the hunting season. That sounds like a lame reason to me.

Hunting is a favorite pasttime where I live too, but I think I can safely say that I have NEVER seen anyone mount their trophy on the front of their vehicle.

No, not at all. I've always lived in the city -- growing up, a medium-sized, peaceful kind of city (Ottawa); and for the last decade, a big city (Toronto). So there's never been hunting around me. My in-laws live in the country in Quebec and they say the locals drive around in their trucks trying to herd the game into areas where they're allowed to hunt ... I think that's pretty despicable, but at least they've never said anything about people driving around with trophies mounted on their hoods. I find that really disgusting. I'm not against hunting in theory, but I think it has to be done with respect for the animal, and what you've described is not respectful IMO.

We mount deer (whole body) and usually on the roof of a car, as long as the weather is cool. Hang out at the local tavern and it is not unusual to see a parking lot full of cars with deer mounted this way and men and women standing around checking everyone elses kill out. We do it for bear season too. Just a way to see what is being killed and a way to brag about the kill. It gives others hope too, that their fruitless efforts are not due to lack of animals in the woods. I do it when I have a kill, no more morbid I guess than hanging it on the wall. *shrugs*
