If you are buying from a reputable dealer they will be able to "pop" them. You basically roll your thumb from the tip of the tail towards the vent. If its a male two hemipens will pop out. If you don't know how to do it leave it to the pros. Some can be told by the length of the tail also. Boas are constricts that are for the most part from central and south america with some exceptions and pythons are from your eastern regions including india asia and africa and australia. That is just a simplified answer so all you herp lovers don't tear me apart I could get more in depth but just making it simple

One of the biggest differences is that pythons lay eggs while boas give birth to live young.
