Concerns have been raised about women being aboard submarines, w/comments about RAPE being possible. Will you please LIST THE NAMES of all women who have been RAPED on board the Space Shuttles, or on board the Space Station? (I'll wait, patiently...)

I would say whomever made that argument lost. If men can't resist raping a woman, they don't belong in the Navy, let alone among the more elite submariners. Discipline is a requirement.

That's a pretty ridiculous argument, given that rape is "possible" literally anywhere [EDIT: actually, even gender segregation wouldn't make a difference, since men can rape men, and women can rape women]. A submarine, an office, even right on the sidewalk...it COULD happen anywhere. If a woman was to live constantly fearing this remote possibility, she'd have to live alone in a bunker.

I don't think it has anything to do with rape. It is a left over notion that women are bad luck on a ship. And submariners are the "clickiest" navel cadre there is. They will be the last to change. Please, I am not defending the notion, but I think that is what it is. The space program, being more discretionary as a budget item, serves a sefish interest by being more progressive regarding race and gender.
