  • Not always. Maybe the friends were unavailable for whatever reason (i.e. they're busy, or they're just unreliable, bad friends). Or perhaps the defendant is a loner, which, unfortunately, often makes other people suspicious even if the person is innocent.
  • True or not, the court may interpret it to mean that the person can't find people to say anything good about them.
