It's cold, wet, and gray. Not too cold though, still relatively mild compared to say, Colorado.

I live next door in southwestern Virginia, which is similar. In the winter months, count on some very cold nights and plenty of icy wind. There is not as much snow as you might expect, but it depends on that particular winter. Generally speaking, nights are in the 20s and low 30s, and days are in the 30s and 40s. Temps can drop much lower, and you can be surprised by a day or so in the 70s.

I actually live in Middle Tennessee, just North of the Nashville area. For me the weather is awesome. You actually get the four season's here. Yes there is always snow in Tennessee somewhere (Smokey Mountains and where I live; Mostly the more Northern areas gets it though). To answer your question, it really depends on where you go in Tennessee (West, Middle, East).
