• Not really. Canadians with money come to the States for anything more than basic treatment. Universal coverage does not equal good coverage or immediate treatment.

• Beg to differ. Diagnosed end of May with rectal cancer, had my radiation, chemo and surgery. Now have home care nurses twice a week, soon to be followed by more surgery to rearrange the plumbing back to near normal and more chemo. My cost so far, out of pocket for excellent, prompt and professional health care....what I paid for hospital parking. Granted our health care isn't "free", but it's so low cost to the individual that most people wouldn't even notice any impact on their income in the slightest. Ohh..and as far as traveling to the States for treatment? Sure, if unique circumstances warrant it ( also usually covered by our health care if the procedure can't be done here) or just like in the States...you're gonna have folk that want it now, not 30 seconds from now. How many in the States travel abroad for certain procedures or seek a certain medical professional to perform that procedure? A few too.

• Our major problem in Canada is the number of Doctors allowed to graduate from medical school each year.
  The budget for each province pays the Dr's fees and if more new Drs are allowed into the system uncontrolled,then the budget will not support them (the Drs) to the financial social standard the Drs expect.Some smart children must then look for other careers when they are rejected when the numbers are filled.Some kids go looking to other countries for sponsorships then.At that point it is a Canadian loss.

• Actually, it's more of a "I'm better financially compensated" thing. Here in Ontario, Docs are being encouraged to go to remote communities with a financial incentive, but it still can't beat the lure of some other countries compensation packages. I suppose it's really up to an individual personality. One who wants to help and be community oriented or one who's simply in it for the dough.
  In my journey through Ontario health care, I've been fortunate to come across more community oriented health care professionals than those simply interested in racking up OHIP claims.
