First, get familiar with how to cite the info you put into it so you don't get screwed with plagiarism.
But here is how to write a good essay in a nutshell:
::1:: It should consist of an info (1 paragraph) a body (about 3 paragraphs, each one focused on one point) and a conclusion (giving a sum of all your points and triumphant finish)
::2::Never tell an essay in "I" or "me" tense (I think its called first tense), except for some exceptions. But generally, a teacher will be more generous with the grade if you tell it from an informational, distant persective of facts.
::3:: Check spelling and grammar. Make sure that your transitions are smooth, from one point to the next, between paragraphs. First write from the heart, then go through it and clean up.
