It has an excellent reputation and I've only heard good things about it from my friends that went there. My opinion of Pittsburgh is another matter entirely.

Carnegie Mellon is a great place for a number of disciplines, but not everything. Engineering, Computer Science, Drama and the Arts are strong areas. And some specialty programs like the Robotics Institute. Pittsburgh is a great city to live in with a fairly low crime rate. It has a low cost of living, and there are many things for a student to enjoy: Museums, concerts, sporting events, ethnic restaurants, etc. CMU is fairly expensive but offers excellent financial aid. All in all, it's an excellent choice for a college.

My grandparents both went to school there and met there. It was a top class university when they were there. I don't know much about it now.
