  • A buddy I used to work with ( who was from the U.K.) would refer to women as "birds". I had to ask him the first time what he was talking about....LOL + 5
  • There's a scene in the movie "Beautiful Thing" in which a young British woman refers to another woman as a "bird" and the man she is speaking to tells her she shouldn't use that term that way because it's degrading to herself. Pretty cool defense of women by a man, I thought.

  • Well I'm in the US and not a lad, but I had to tell you that the first time I heard girls being referred to as "birds" was when the Beatles used that term in "A Hard Day's Night". I thought it was kind of cute. Of course, I don't remember anyone using the term since the 60's when it was considered a really "cool" thing to be called.

  • It comes from the word bride the word bride has something to do with the Celtic word for bird, this is the only reason it is used, its not derogatory to women. And yes I know you didnt say you thought it was .
