  • No Motrin is a brand of Ibuprofin. Tylenol is Acetaminophen. Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid. They are all three different and have different mechanisms of operation.
  • It's not asprin or 12 years olds + wouldn't be able to take it. Many people take tylenol or motrin to avoid asprin.
  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofin (Motrin), and aspirin are all used for pain relief, but depending on a person's injury/illness, age, existing medical conditions, etc., one pain reliever might be more appropriate than the others. Aspirin was the first pain reliever and was commonly used until acetaminophen and Ibuprofin were developed. Aspirin also affects the bloods ability to clot so if a patient has an injury that caused extensive bruising or bleeding asprin might not be a good choice. Aspirin can also irritate the stomach lining. Children should not be given aspirin because of potential health risks. Acetaminophen not only works to relieve pain but it also reduces fever. Those with known kidney or liver disase, or patients who drink alcohol should consult their doctor before taking acetaminophen. Like aspirin, it can irritate the stomach lining. Ibuprofen is a pain reliever and reduces inflammation and swelling. It's a good choice for general pain, as well as soft tissue injuries especially when swelling is present.
