You normally will only get problems if you use certain cheats like peds riot and peds hate you, many things can happen if you save the game with cheats you could have problems where the games may stop and your PS2 (or XBOX) may reset I haven't had any problems with very many cheats. Wanted cheat and weapon cheats are fine to save with but if you use the cheat to change clothes or player you may have problems.

If you use the codes too much, at least on the PS2, the game will not let you complete, you will also notice your criminal rating is quite pitiful, probably due to this as you have to have a certain completion level to get so far in the game.

when you type in a cheat, some cheats do not go away for a long time. ex. the hate cheat.

In a cheat magazine i got it says that it can damage the data on your memory card so use them on Grand Theft Auto at your own risk!
