  • No, the punishment should fit the crime.
  • There already are. In NY, violations can get you 30 days, misdemeanors up to a year and felonies no less than a year.
  • If you mean should there be a minimum sentence for every crime, so say you commit murder and someone else steals a pack of gum and you both have a minimum 1 year in prison; then i say absolutely no. If you mean should each crime have its own minimum sentence then i right now i would say no. On small petty crimes i would probably say there shouldn't be a minimum sentence but larger crimes i think definitely should have minimum sentence requirements.
  • Only on certain ones but it is still a legislative encroachment on judicial turf. . Murder in the first and second degrees needs minimum sentences (per type) to prevent people excusing the murder of 'lesser' people.
