Yes, I would try hard to make it work. The importance of the person might transcend gender for me.

Yes, I would. Unless there was some fundamental personality/character changes, the person is still the same person I fell in love with. Since I don't really concern myself with the opinions of others in matters of the heart, opposing viewpoints would be a non-issue for me. +5
