God was a lot more "hands off" in the NT compared to the OT. He used to walk around in the Garden of Eden, then he slowly disappeared from the picture. Later in Genesis he appeared as a burning bush, or a pillar of cloud. Not that much further along in the book, he sends angels to talk to his followers (apparently he can't be bothered). If you follow this trend to modern times, we see that God has all but disappeared from the picture all together.
