A number of things, however, the first that come to mind are, stalling when idle, and sluggish between gears. Sometimes an EGR will stick in the open possition and cause the car to stall a lot when you first start it, or when you come to a stop light, and when you get up in speed, like on the highway, it will run funny. If you can get to it, and bang on it a little, and that causes it to clears up, you have a bad valve.
