  • It is a type of ham.
  • As a 1/2 Sicilian lady who had it often as a kid when my dad would take my mom and me from our place in uptown Manhattan, NYC, to "Arthur Ave." in the Bronx, an all-Italian (Mafia controlled!) neighborhood, I can tell you a bit about it. As I recall, capicola is a salty, thinly-sliced pork meat that I believe has been marinated in order to get the saltier taste - it also has little peppercorns in it, to my knowledge. It is something that would be put on Italian sub/hero sandwiches. Very tasty, but very salty. You'd get it at native Italian markets such as in a Little Italy-type neighborhood - most regular delis don't sell it, to my knowledge!...Anyone who knows more, or who wants to correct my information, I'll be interested to re-visit this question!
