Why are magazines full of skinny women when the real world is full or normal curvy beautiful women?

• indeed- but wouldn't it be nice if the media realised that if they made clothes that suited the curvy population they wouldn't have to find coat hanger models and the beauty pages could reflect the real world?

• it wasn't meant as a slam to skinny women, but one of my friends is a clothing designer and he told me that's why they prefer thinner than usual women as models, because of the way the clothes "drape"

• i agree! i have seen some beautiful very skinny women who were healthy, but there's also beautiful women with curves. this us vs. them mentality should stop!

• I agree. I am definitely NOT skinny, but I have noticed that people who are very thin have many snarky comments directed at them. "Go eat something!" "I hate you, you're so skinny!" Not to mention the name-calling, "skinny bitch", etc.
  It's all so uncalled for. :/

• yep i agree...but i do hate how the media portrays 'skinny' as being the perfect way to be. if your naturally skinny then thats cool it suits you! you are no worse off than a curvy person. but i think wat ppl are tryin to say is beauty is beauty whether curvy or skinny...but the media portrays that you have to be skinny to be attractive! and honestly...both are equal, everyone is different for a reason! i think it would be good to have curvy and skinny in the media more

• you know, i have seen a lot less of said snarky comments with some of my skinny friends that i did in the past. i don't know if people are more tolerant here or what. maybe it's just cuz there's a bunch of skinny, bicycling, vegans around here who are probably skinny do to malnourishment. they are trying damn hard to be healthy too, so it really wouldn't be fair to yell at them! plus, some of the women i know who eat the least weigh more than a lot of the others.

• oh my gosh the media is crazy! i agree we shouldnt let them run our lives! they intentionally tell us that the right way to be is unattainable...it makes us want more and buy more! i wish the media would jst p-off quite frankly! and we need more people in the world that realise that we can make up our own minds =oD

• I agree with ya there hun. There's a difference between bashing the IDEA that anything other than skinny is unattractive, and bashing skinny women. For sure some women are naturally skinny, but are healthy and attractive, and don't starve themselves. I never come down on a woman like that; only the media/society's view that 'all women have to be skinny in order to look beautiful'.
