  • Yes and no, alot of the items in walmart do come from america, however many do not.
  • walmart is in direct conflict with the mom and pop stores in the same locale as walmart. walmart just invades commercial zones. they have everything. the mom and pop stores have to shut down. its totally unamerican.
  • A lot of stores carry items that are imported from other countries, and WalMart is no exception. But there are still American-made items to be found in these stores as well. If you want to support the American economy, just look for "made in the USA" items to buy.
  • No. And neither is buying Japanese (or German) automobiles or using fuel oil / gasoline from the Middle East (or the North Sea, or Venezuela). Your first responsibility is to yourself and your family, and to get the best value that you can for your dollar. Some people will try to convince you that you are being somehow unpatriotic to spend your dollars around the world (which is what you're doing when you buy imported goods and services of any kind). Those people are leeches, or worse, who want you to pay more for their goods and services than they are valued at on the open market.
  • American economy must come second to mine! Even though, I'm sure, they are intertwined some how! Walmart works for our situation. Our economic future isn't horrible, but I'd like to keep it that way.
  • It's the only place I can afford to shop.
  • I don't care really...I'm just lookin to save some money...I'm broke and if they can do that for me, that's where I'm gonna shop
  • Isn't it obvious? We've lost more than a million manufacturing jobs even before the recent debacle starting in 2000. Before that the manufacturing industries in the US, like apparel, tools, audio and visual equipment, pens, eye wear, foot wear, and so forth were already decimated. Besides the loss of jobs there is also the loss of manufacturing capacity to consider. In addition, hundreds of thousands small shop and supermarket retail jobs have been lost. Small towns lost their main streets and experienced an extreme loss of tax revenue when Walmarts would be located just out town boundaries. Walmart has been a disaster for America.
  • A DISASTER FOR THE AMERICAN ECONOMY & WORKER TOO! Add in the fact that many of Walmart sites would tax abated for twenty and even forty years by the counties and states in which they were located. -- This while the stores that would be eventually driven out of business were paying their full real estate taxes on main street. - In many cases Walmart got the counties to construct highway exits leading to their sites. - Sewers were built. Talk about corporate welfare!
  • All the one line stores cried foul when department stores opened, but everyone liked the department stores. Small downtowns are crying foul because of Walmart, but people like Walmart. It's called free enterprise, or survival of the smartest (and strongest).
  • they have low prices i dont care about anything else
  • The conflict of interest comes in when I have to pay $2.89 for a single tube of Blistex somewhere else, and can pay only 97 cents for it at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart may be running out the mom and pop stores, but thier greed is the real killer. +5
