Its similar but global warming is much more credible. Its based on scientific evidence. Global warming will happen regardless of what man kind is doing. It works in cycles.

Global warming is at least as big of a fairy tale as religion. I don't see how either is more or less helpful.

Well, to some the global warming/cooling/changing IS a religion. It's a moneymaking scheme just like some religious-themed TV evangelism is.
