  • Well according to Consumer Reports right now it is the Toyota Rav 4. I personally think it is very unattractive. I'm a big fan of the Honda CRV and Jeep Liberty which both of I am currently considering as my next car. (Thoughts?)
  • None of them. They are all gas-guzzling and unnecessary unless you have at least 3 children and 2 dogs and a soccer team. Oh, and if you live in the city, owning an SUV is even more asinine.
  • I'd have to say the original Isuzu Trooper or one of the 80's Land Rovers... They were indestructible, and could fit anywhere with it's narrow profile. The one downfall to the Isuzu was it's proneness to head gasket failure... On another note, "SUV's" built post the early 90's are neither "sport" nor "utility". You can't offroad without busting the plastic molding and you can't pile in a stack of rusty pipes without totally destroying the delicate interiors... They are Luxury Power Wagons.
  • From a cosmetic standpoint? The Tahoe, I love it...but all of them are heavy on the pockets.
  • range rover
  • The original Land Rover. Not the new ones with leather seats and all those comfort doo-dads that turn it into a condo on wheels, but one of the old ones. I'm talking the ones that were basically British mil-spec with a paint job. The ones that could literally repel small-arms fire. It was like the Hummer only a few decades earlier.
  • Porsche cayenne turbo S. Of course, as an automotive performance nerd, my general opinion is SUVs are rubbish. However, the cayenne t-s is an all around great car, in fact, i'd go as far as to say it is everything you ever need in an automobile. I can explain. Although it isnt THE FASTEST thing on 4 wheels, for a car that weighs up to 3 tons with full options, 4.8 seconds to 60 is remarkably fast for any car. But unlike many cars that can go that fast, you get the safty and comfort of a luxury vehicle, and offroad capibility of a truck. Try to take a sports car off road. So at this point you have something with the performance of an EVO or STI, but with the luxury, prestige, and pedigree of a porsche sports car. The massive brakes stop it like a sports car, and the suspension will put it around a track faster than the aforementioned rally cars, on or off the road. The only downside is the gas mileage which is horridly embaressing, but thats the price you pay for 520 bhp under your right foot.
  • SUV's are too expensive. Gas/Insurance etc. At least where I'm from. 3.00+ a gallon for a 25 gallon tank doesn't make much sense. If I had to choose, I would get an R.Rover.SC
  • Everyone rags on SUVs, when half of you probably drive cars with equally bad mileage. Sports cars get terrible mileage as do most luxury sedans. I had a mustang (and it was NOT a V-8) that got worse mileage than a Lexus 300 (an SUV). My brother- in- law has a nice sedan (Jaguar) that surely would not invoke the same ire and smugness you hold for SUVs...yet he gets about 12 miles per gallon. A small SUV is great and gets about the same miles per gallon as a large sedan. What don't you try being all-inclusive and jump on people who drive those? Some people just enjoy being sanctimonious.
  • I owned a Rav4 and I loved it. Gas milage is way better than you would expect.
  • The 80 series Land Cruiser. It is the SUV that all suv's aspire to be. It is iconic. Just look at what it is being compared to on this site. Enough said. And, btw, I will shred your little city slicker Cayenne on the way up any trail you choose in Colorado - as long as it is off road with lots of rocks and trees and gnarly, dangerous switchback corners. Yeah. That's what I thought.
  • 1.the old toyota land cruisers.almost indestructable. their worst enemy was rust. 2.the old MB jeep. neither of these were sport.but they would get you where you wanted to go and home again.
  • The Army Mutt Jeep.
  • I am on the same page as Komangreen. the 80 series landcruiser is by far the best all rounded utility vehicle ever. I have owned the land rover and wont denie its abilities but the landcruiser is far more superior. Add a slee offroad suspension lift with a 33 inch tire and not much is going to stop you. You may also desire to leave it as it is and just use it as the family/"SOCCER MOM" go anywhere vehicle. Regardless the landcruiser will last you a lifetime. I will admit the cruiser loves brakes!! and is not the best on gas but if you are searching for an SUV then you must already know that they all pretty much suck in the MPG department. So in concluding I would recomend the landcruiser to all. P.S I have 334,000 mile on my landcruncher and have friends wiht even more. "LIKE I SAID...A LIFE TIME"
