No, as to say a person is gay would imply either they are homosexual or happy, neither of which makes them better or worse than myself.

I personally hate the word 'retarded'. In my mind, I remember being about 6 and my dad calling a child with Downs Syndrome retarded. Then my mum explained to me that my dad is basically an arse and that it is cruel to say such things, especially as because of the age my mum was having me, it was very possible I would of had Downs too. And I most certainly wouldn't want anyone to be that nasty.

There is no need to say those things, and if you want to insult someone with effectiveness, you have to use a brain or it is just an insult to yourself. Anyone with half a brain would know better than to say that

In the interest of being totally honest, Yes I do.
I would never say it in front of a person who was "Gay" or "Retarded" but otherwise i dont feel bad about it at all. Other than ethnic slurs, which I hate, i dont believe that being "PC" will do anyone any good.

Occasionally I use "you're such a retard." But, I try not to use "gay." I think it is just a huge insult to people who are mentally retarded or gay. So, I try not to say things like that.

No, because those words have other meanings and if anything, using them is insulting to those people who "are" the "real definition."

    Plus, it's just rude, anyway!

Never. Using "gay" to mean "dumb" or "stupid" is perpetrating the negative impression of homosexuals.

It is sad that "gay" has come into usage like this.

I do not have the same problem with the word "retarded" because it is not stereotyping. I do not LIKE the word "retarded" when used that way but I do not object to it nearly as much as using "gay" that way.

"Gay" to mean something bad is along the lines of stereotyping as "gypped" is to mean to be conned or short-changed.

The retard slips out of my mouth on occasion. Talk about a mental slap I give myself.

    Gay on the otherhand..

Well basically I think it's just gay to use it.
    Honestly.

No Can't say I use 'gay' or 'retarded'.

I do say 'That car is butt ugly' or 'that movie was sooo stupid' things like that.

I grew up in an era where we didn't call things retarded or gay. Well except our "Gay Apparel" (Fa la la la la, la, la, la.. la).

Never..I work with special needs kids and I know how offensive it is when someone says it to them. As for the word gay I admit to using it but not being hateful.

No. Those terms are rude and insensitive in this context. It could be that some of the people within earshot will be offended. There are simply better ways to say it.

  • I hate the word "retarded," so no.
As for gay, I don't use it either, though lately I've been having urges to because I hang out with a friend who does (though in a way that seems somewhat satirical, if that makes sense).

It really bothers me when people use those words in an inappropriate way. Seems like most school children are the ones guilty of this.

To my dismay, I sometimes use the term "retarded." I don't use gay though, because that doesn't really make a lot of sense as an insult.

I live on an indian reservation and yes that means I'm a native american indian. We have our own language, we make words describe different things when of course they do not mean what we use them for, so around here, they do, (but not me, I'm one of the smarter ones, my use of vocabulary is some times too advanced for others).

I did in grade school, because they were just words to me -- I didn't really think about what it meant. But now, as an adult, I would never use them -- not only because they're inappropriate, but because 1) I'm gay, and 2) my nephew is mentally retarded. That would be insulting myself and my family!

I do. Not intentionally. I dont really feel bad about it when I do say it, but I try not to. I have several homosexual friends and my brother is severely mentally handicapped. I dont know why then, that I say it. It doesnt make sense really.

  • I do occasionally, and I'm really trying to stop. I was walking with my friend at school one time, and casually said, "You're such a retard" just as the special needs kids walked by. I didn't even realize what I said, until he pointed it out to me. I felt sooo bad! =//

When I was younger, yeah...damn near anything would come out of my mouth.. but now I am mature, wiser and a father...I refrain from talking in that matter.
