No. Your hair has no way of knowing it is being cut. It's all perception: The shorter your hair is, the faster it seems to grow, since the difference between short and medium hair is more obvious than the difference between long and very long hair.

Hair growth rates are not affected by being cut, but it is possible to grow some individual hairs longer by cutting them. HUH? I know, it doesn't make sense, but the reasoning behind it is this; hair which is brittle, damaged, and has split ends breaks off at shorter lengths than the hair is normally capable of growing. By cutting the split/damaged ends off and using proper hair care techniques you may be able to grow your hair slightly longer. It may not even be a noticable amount, but in some cases it actually works that way.

Your hair as it gets longer tends to split causing your hair to break. Getting your hair trimmed pervents your hair to break. I cut hair, and I have regular clients come in (all different hair types). Getting your hair trimmed helps your hair to grow healthier and quicker. Not fast, but quicker in the sense of it being healthy and your ends not being so dry to where they split.

No. Hair grows approximately three-fourths of an inch per month, regardless of how often you cut it. However, periodic trimming is beneficial to the hair because it gets rid of the split ends which would otherwise split further up the hair shaft and compromise the condition of the hair. Even though you didn't ask, here are a couple of interesting facts about hair growth: Hair grows faster in summer than in winter. The maximum rate of hair growth occurs in females from the ages of 15 to 22. This doesn't mean that it grows longer; just faster. Goldiemae

No trimming tour hair is just to keep a hairstyle

No, cutting your hair won't make it grow faster, but it may help it grow longer. If the ends of your hair are very damaged, they may break off and make it look like your hair isn't growing. By cutting off the damage, the splits don't spread up the shaft and the hair doesn't break off (unless you treat your hair REALLY badly and it gets damaged at shorter lengths). Cutting also helps make your hair look thicker at the ends, which adds to the appearance of health. So, cutting can help your hair grow longer than it could before, but it doesn't make it grow faster. On average, people grow half an inch a month. The growth rates vary with season, diet, and genetics. Make sure you're eating a healthy diet and your hair will be okay. So if you keep cutting your hair, your hair will just keep getting shorter.

Cutting you hair does take care of the split ends so they don't split all the way up the hair shaft and make hair break off. When hair breaks off it effects it's length. Hair grows approximatly 1/2 inch a month but if you would like your hair to grow faster, you can take a supplement called Biotin. You can find this in GNC or your local health food store. It is a natural herb which aids in the growth of hair and nails. Also, if you have a problem with split ends or dry damaged hair due to chemical services like color, you should use a product by Redkin called Anti-Snap. This product will not get rid of the splits you have but will help keep you from getting more. Also don't yank tangles out of your hair, gently try to detangle it using conditioner in the shower or a leave in conditioner. You can use the leave in one even on dry hair. Just don't use to much or your hair may look greasy. I hope I have been helpful and by the way, I saw that someone said this was a stupid article but really only a stupid person would say that. I have been in the hair business for over 13 yrs and I have yet to hear or read a stupid question regarding hair care. If someone thinks a question is stupid it's because they don't have the knowledge to answer it and definatly don't have the commone sense to know not to add a comment on a subject they know nothing about.

It stands to reason if your hair is damaged, it wont grow to its own full potential;it will break. By having regular trims enables the hair to grow healthier; therefore potentially longer. Of course hair is dead, else we would feel it being cut! but I believe hair will also grow nicer if it has regular trims. Id rather my hair took 3 years to reach midback length and looked healthy, with minimum split ends than 2 years and look split ended and thin, surely the whole idea to growing hair long is for it to look nice? Another example, a piece of antique lace, can last years and look good, if treated correctly but will soon be ragged and worn if abused? same goes for hair!

My hair stayed the same length for years, if I cut tiny ends off all the way around, it still didn't grow. Now, it does. Maybe I was eating wrong, as usual.
