My girlfriend says because we are stupid. My roomate is a guy and he said because woman have nothing good to say, I say because its a waste of time. i read the question and they all answered.

i have no idea! but it drives me crazy! although i have run into the rare few that can carry on a decent (but barely passable) conversation!

Many of us just don't have that much to say. When we do feel like talking, we often want to look the other person in the eye. Some may be into idle chit-chat, but most guys are about information transfer; get to the point! And there are always non-verbal things that a phone just doesn't get, or at least doesn't convey in their intended way.
