Why? They're not going to pay for it anyway. If I can't afford insurance, how would I afford to pay the fine? What would be the downside for them?

of course not!!! they're laying in bed, too sick to get out of it, because they were never able to afford to see a doctor!!! OF COURSE THEY DO! but, rosie, your point is taken, taking up 17% of the population, one in 6 ought to be uninsured. at public protests, it seems less. i suspect that many of the uninsured can not read, can not read English, are not involved in civic affairs, hold 3 jobs just to make ends meet, are too busy caring for their ill relatives ...
