The noble gases are a chemical series. They are the elements in group 18 (old-style Group 0) of the periodic table; specifically helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon and radon.

noble gases are located in the last group to the right of the periodic table. These gases contain the necessary 8 valence electrons; they follow the "octet rule". This is the LEAST reactive group in the periodic table. Because they are very nonreactive, they do not bond with any other elements. This is where it's name "noble" gases came from. They are "noble" because they do not like to associate with other elements.
