I think it becomes a matter of the men trying to express the natural/instinctive desire to pass his genes and his genes only through his mate vs. the rules of society which restrict his ability to do so. Thus instead of men running around with clubs beating off competition and possibly beating mates into submission, we have men that attempt to always have a "forbidden" and/or exclusive sexual act granted to them. If the female has preformed anal sex with 10 other men before than male number 11 might not be so excited to try it as it no longer represents a unique act of devotion. So like all things it depends on how the options are presented to the man which will determine which one is preferred.
