    Her last public statement to her fans was in June 2001, when she said:

    "A lot of people have wondered what I've been up to. I retired from my career after 24 years. My feeling was that it was time to play my biggest part — MYSELF! I must say that it has been the best thing that ever happened to me. So many fans are disappointed that I'm not currently acting, however some may not realize that the process I'm in at this time is necessary and vital for my personal happiness and well-being."

    To add a little bit more information KM has decided to pretty much drop the acting because her BP disorder is aggrevated by it. She's currently teaching high school....

    McNichol performed a voice for the 1998 animated series Invasion America, but since then she has rarely appeared before a camera or microphone. At last report, she was a high school drama teacher.

    She left acting during her run on Empty Nest because of a condition known as bipolar disorder. Her condition caused her to have bouts of manic depression brought on by stress. The stress of acting, in her case.

    I loved watching Kristy, I followed her acting career as we are the same age and I always wanted to be her. I'm sad to know she battles with bipolar . I love her cute face on screen and would have loved to see her in a big block buster role. I hope she has found the place that fits her best in life. Being healthy and happy is every ones hopes. Acting is in ones blood, so Kristy will always have that little bug tapping on her door... maybe one day it will deliver an awesome Oscar tempting script she can't refuse. *smile*
