A dog. I don't need a cat running around the place killing all of the native animals.

That's a difficult one for me. If I chose a dog then it would be because of the common outdoor activities we could partake in. The cat would be less "maintenance" and I could go away for weekend excursions without thinking about the house being torn to shreds. In this situation, I'd go with the dog because I don't have a family of my own. :)

As far as adoption is concerned, I would choose a dog. This is becasue dogs are more requiring of human assistance than cats are.
