Why do some people think it is OK to tip for bad service? When I get bad service I know it is because others tipped for such horrible service. The waitress cannot live without the tips so be sure not to leave a penny when you get bad service. If everyone followed this code there would be no bad waitresses except cute ones.

if the person was horrible i leave a penny so they know i did not forget. it sends a message you suck lets change that attitude otherwise your tips will be sucky as well. i will also over tip a great server and even call management over to compliment. +5

Perhaps because they receive bad service. We don't tip where I live, but if I lived somewhere were people DID tip, I would refuse to tip people who were rude, or incompetent, or otherwise unsatisfactory. Why should I give someone extra money if they can't even do their job?

because a bad tip is meant to be a good tip to do a better job next time.
