When you give points to a question or answer, do you type +6 or +whatever , before or after you actually add the points?

I used to whenever I liked the question, but didn't have a comment to contribute. It's also subtle encouragement for the person receiving your points to return the favor. Now that I contribute to AB less, I've lost the goal of accumulating points so I just anonymously award points.
