White vinegar has a slightly stronger taste than cider vinegar. You definitely should NOT use red wine, red wine vinegar, or apple cider...Not enough acidity to inhibit bacterial growth. You may try adding a little more sugar.

You're reading I am making sweet chili sauce. And the recipe called for vinegar. I used white distilled and the sauce taste a little like vinegar. I realize i should have used red wine or apple cider. Any way to cut down the vinegar taste? before i can the sauce.
