The problem is that the radiator sits lower than the rest of the engine. This is most common with Pontiacs and Buicks. When you flush and refill your radiator, the coolant doesn't fill up the water jackets in the engine. You are left with this big "air bubble" , if you will, in the cooling system. So...you drive away with too little coolant, the "check coolant" light on your dash comes on, and your temperature gauge reads you're close to overheating. Solution: Don't do your own flush and fill. Your system requires "bleeding" air while refilling coolant. Take your car to a pro for cooling system service.
