  • It's an excellent read! I read it from start to finish in just 3 days! Don't believe me? Read the reviews here... http://www.amazon.com/Guns-August-Barbara-W-Tuchman/dp/0345476093/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-5998432-8765422?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177396474&sr=8-1
  • It is one of the most compelling narrative histories ever written. I have read it several times. As a result of incredibly exstensive Tuchman is able to create extremely granular portraits of the leading characters. Captures the passing of old Europe and the first month of World War 1, which Tuchman contends decided the ultimate outcome. Basically Germany lost because it did not stay faithful to the Schleiffen Plan (ie a right wing encirclement of the French Army via the channel coast).
