They seem to go together, but which came first (like the chicken and the egg)? There are lots of factors. TV takes the place of family interactions, conversations, games, etc. Busy schedules that don't match up make for missing having meals together. Many fewer people seem to have a strong commitment to their faith in God these days; this was a factor to hold the family closer together. Of course emotional difficulties and the resultant acting out behavior get passed from generation to generation unless a strong intervention occurs. Another thing to consider is population density. People living in small towns and villages seem to support each other better than folks in larger cities. I guess that the short answer is "Yes, they do", especially when the family is dysfunctional enough not to teach proper manners of courtesy to their offspring. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
