I think they are people who are availing themselves of technology in order to more fully participate in the world around them. I am deaf in one ear and conventional hearing aids like the ones that just amplify sound do not work for me. Cost keeps me from getting a more sophisticated aid and that makes me very sad. I would love to be able to hear again. Losing my hearing in one ear ten years ago changed my life. I have adjusted but...*sigh* I would love to be able to hear again.

Hearing aids are great things. I know that some of the new ones can work extremely well if fitted and adjusted correctly, and some of them are surprisingly fashionable. I have the impression that people a generation or two older than me have much more negative feelings about them than people my age. There's no need to associate them with aging and loss- lots of kids are helped by them.

They do not have choice in thier life and they have to hear what is going around them.

i think that they have a hearing problem that can thankfully be remedied(temporarily)

It depends on if they use them and have them turned up properly, if not then it's just an expensive piece of plastic wasting space in your ear.
