I thought it sounded pretty weak. . Primitive man followed animals around to survive. I have little doubt that individual people would have noted features passed on from one animal to another and features passed on from one human to another on occasions where sexual options were restricted. . As to when it became common knowledge I cannot say. I don't believe it is a matter of historical record.
