Should viacom really sue Youtube (Google) for 1 billion dollars for copy right infrigement?

I think so, as they need to make a point about copyright law. If anyone can place copyrighted material on the internet then what is the point of having copyright in the first place? Viacom could have chosen to make a deal with Youtube regarding usage of content, but perhaps they thought this form of action would send a strong message to all sites about copyright infringement. I reckon they will settle out of court anyway.
