I have two beer mugs, and they are saved for posterity. Both are pewter, and were given to me and my wife on our wedding day by a close friend. Both mugs were engraved with out initials and our wedding date. Coming from a former girlfriend, I thought that was a very kind gesture. She attended our wedding, and wished us happiness. There should be many more kind and thoughtful people like her in the world.

My favorite mug is tall, and is curved into an hour-glass shape. The curve at the top is more comfortable than sraight-up mugs :) I hate mugs with almost no place to put at least 3 of your fingers.. those are really uncomfortable.
