Baghdad is a city, the insurgents are embedded into the civilian population. American forces already have "taken" Baghdad - but they can't go in and remove all the people. Therefore the most they can do is try to police the city. As insurgents acquire better weapons that job will be made far more difficult.

No. The only way that we will achieve peace in Iraq is to place the entire country under strict martial law indefinitly and place 10 million troops there on the ground. Of course that is not practical, but that is the only way to get there from here without loosing, which we have already done. Or we could just leave, and let them figure it out for themselves. After the bloodbaths were finished we would surely have another enemy in the middle east though. There are more evil and ridiculous ways to do it, such as killing off the entire population, but that would upset too many people, myself included.

I think we should annex the oil fields. Build a military base there and protect the oil fields. Give 1/2 the money to Iraqi government if they remain a democracy. Keep 50% of oil profits until the entire cost of the war and any rebuilding efforts are paid in full, with interest. Continue tactical air strikes when suitable targets identified, including in Iran. Get the media out and let the military do their job. Give the Israelis free pass to do whatever they deem necessary concerning Lebanon and Syria, quit holding them back. Properly identify Saudi Arabia as a terrorist sponsoring state and tell them if they don't clean house we will do it for them. Tell all non-participating NATO countries if they don't get with it and help there will be repurcussions.
