I am going to disagree somewhat with the first person who posted on this. The units are important if we want to figure out how far the rescuers have to go. However, the process to figure out the answer is the same regardless of the units. First you need to know the length of each leg of the planes trip. This is just a the simple equation x = vt So use this equation to determine the length of each leg of the trip. Next, since the question indicates a 90° turn, you should use the Pythagorean theorem, to calculate the total distance from the airport. The Pythagorean theorem is a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where a and b are each legs of the plane's trip from the airport and c is the total distance from the airport.
