  • Well if you want to shred your better of learning scales But be warned, I recommend you have at least a basic guitar theory knowledge. It will be much easier as books on scales use notes and signs that will be confusing to the beginner guitarist.
  • The first thing to remember is to practice slowly. Practice scales, both plucking each note and hammering/pulling the ones that are on the same string. Put your metronome (you DO have one, right?) at 60 (or less) and practice THAT slowly. Speed requires muscle memory, which cannot be developed with quick movements, hence the slow practice. You can always speed things up later. Also practice left hand fingers on each string: 1234, 1243, 1324, 1342, then 2134, 2143, 2314, 2341, etc. Do it slowly, plucked, hammered, etc, making sure everything is PERFECT. Speed doesn't make speed, perfection does.
  • OK first get a teacher, second get a teacher, third get a teacher. Without atleast a little bit of formal trainging, you'll never develope good technique and basic chord trainning. Good luck.
