there is a switch/valve not sure if it is a solenoid type valve, that reverses just like a heat pump operates, momentarily, to warm up the part just enough to allow the cubed ice to separate and release, then reverse back again to begin 'making ice' anew as the tray fills with water. Sounds like that part, whatever your specific fridges' mfr calls it [many give unique names to their internal parts, amusingly] is what requires replacement.

My mother's fridge had this problem many years ago. The serviceman replaced the tray, he said that over time they develop micro fine cracks that will hold the ice in. So I would suggest you replace the tray and see if that helps.
