Epidurals (if used for labor pain) work just as well if put in correctly, for each baby. Epidurals work best during the portion of the labor 4-8cm.
As the baby moves down the canal, moving lower in the pelvis, epidurals are not as effective.
The idea of "no pain" in labor is sort of false. Some women feel less pain than others. Epidurals are to bring the pain level down from a 9 or 10 to a 3-4. (scale 1-10)
If we get you too numb, you will not be able to push effectively and could possibly put you at a higher risk for a c-sec. If this can be avoided it always should.

You're reading Woman: do you think the epidoral is as effective as the first time you get the 2nd or 3rd etc, time around? someone told me that it works the first time you get but then it does'nt work again that you still feel the pain. is this true?
