Animals just know to have sex. They are programmed with the need to pass on their genes and procreate.

It's instinctual. There's something called the 'Pavlovian Response.' If the animal likes it then they comply. If they don't like it then they resist. So compliance is their way of saying: "Yes I want sex." and resistance is their way of saying: "No I don't want sex. Leave me alone."
