I've personally known somebody who's got money willingly off someone online who beleived him to be female, Is it illegal to pose as a female online?

I believe that law on the internet is a bit tricky. It is not illegal to pose as a female online. However observations tell me that it is illegal to pose as a female online for fraudulent or criminal reasons. Your friend appears, however willingly the money was handed over, to be doing it for fraudulent reasons. Note - I am not a lawyer, so this is speculation, but this reminds me of other similar cases in which a person was commiting a crime.

It is not illegal to pose as a female online. It might however be illegal to get money off someone fraudulently.
