Sherri7, I have been concerned since before the election....
-
Very concerned. If the Bush administration would have done this everyone would shit their pants and be howling at the moon because of it. But seeing Obamas administration is passing the law somehow it's ok and it's for our own good in case of an emergency. It's appalling that we would allow one man to have this type of power.
-
Yes, Very much so!! Obama wants more and more power and we as a free nation should be very concerned→ http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/04/should-obama-control-internet
-
The new guy same as the old guy....

Seems like I have seen something like this before... OH yeah!!!
-
Do you have a link to the text of this bill? I would be greatly interested in reading exactly what the proposed bill says.

Was the internet even invented during the Tienanmen Square protest? ======== And the censoring / shutting down of the internet (bill) was created way before the Obama administration. The bill was introduced back in the 9/11 era. Where "truthers" were questioning the Government official story. The Govt. is afraid of the internet because its a quick and ez way to spread news.
-
The bill in question was introduced in April by two senators,a Republican and a Democrat. It would allow the president to close certain aspects of the internet for national security, it is a bill in the making, in other words it is still being tweaked. At any rate if you are concerned make sure you let your senators know your concerns.
-
This is what communist do to silent people no surprise here.
-
It is Unconstitional to censor any source of commincation unless you have a declared war.the internet does not pose a national security threat. Milnet is a separate system as are other secure areas. So it is unnessary to begin with.
-
Was the internet actually accessable to anyone in China in 1989? I know for certain that it wasn't widely available in Great Britain at that time. What makes you think that any president wouldnt do that if deemed necessary? To use the last two as exampes, Bill happily lied on TV to the whole nation about the whole cigar thing & Bush authorised torture & kidnap on a global scale. Shutting down the internet barely even compares.
-
I am more concerned that this bill is designed to take control of the Internet system in the name of Security. It creats an agency which will establish standards and high security programs. This is intended to make the USA safe from hackers and espionage but seems most likely to make MicroSoft the sole provider of Internet program around the world.
-
I think that under extreme circumstances your 'powers-that-be' should do whatever it takes to protect you. The internet was a fledgling entity at the time of Tienanman Square and not used to nearly the same degree for terrorist activity as it has been and could be today. My humble opinion, anyway.
-
There is a bill under consideration which would allow The Preisdent to disconnect “critically important” infrastructure. Your home PC is not critically important infrastructure. The law is designed to shore up government IT weaknesses, and it has NOTHING to do with your personal use of the internet.
-
Will that be before or after he mandates everyone into being a Muslim? Or confiscates guns? Or steals the tooth fairy's money? Are you gonna continue to cry wolf?
-
Cite a source, or stop wasting our time with this paranoid BS. And if you can't even cough up a freakin' bill number, why in the world should I waste my time paying attention to anything you say? -5. I have seriously reached my limit on this kind of garbage.

Whenever anybody in the government starts talking about involving itself in free speech and/or the first amendment in any way shape or form, red flags, bells, whistles, sirens and alarms should immediately start to go off and you/me/we/all of us, should start demanding answers, immediate answers. The internet works on a system set up to allow continued communication even though major portions of the system have been destroyed. Now if there is ever a situation where the stability of the United States is threatened to the point that the internet has to be shut down does it make sense to you that that the one communication link that can be 100% depended upon should be severed? Well, does it?
