In what way is the UK Extremly Liberal??
-
This was meant to be in response to another reply. . The possibility of the practice of Sharia Law would never be called into debate on American Soil. The US sacrifices tradition for nothing. It seems as if that's part of a new trend in the UK.

It's not extreme by a long shot... but it is pretty liberal in some ways, but then it is highly conservative, and socialist, in others. You can't categorise Great Britain by any one political philosophy or ideology, least of all extreme liberalism. In terms of what it seeks to accomplish with its liberalism - without liberalism, there can be no progress. Change is not always good, but by sticking to extreme Conservatism there will never be change, and if there is never change, there can never be progress and improvement.

What? Where? Great Britain is drifting steadily rightwards as time passes. Once we had a mainstream left-wing party - bit not any more. A few things have improved (gay rights), but by and large I would say that Britain is becoming steadily less liberal.

no one at all could or would ever put Great Britain and extreme liberalism in the same sentence.. not in a million years

The words extreme and liberalism don't seem to fit together very well in my opinion. In fact British politics have been moving steadily rightward for a number of years. It has reached the point where there is no longer a truly national party which represents the left. You seem to base your question on a comment made by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and is not part of any political party's policy. You say in several comments that the subject of the Archbishop's comment "would never be called into debate on American Soil". I understood that the citizens of the USA had the same rights to free speech as those enjoyed in the UK. Are you suggesting that you don't have the right of free speech, or that it is only a limited right?
